A*STAR’s focus on the next phase of talent development is to develop itself as a global nexus for research talent. Our vision is to enhance A*STAR’s position as a world-class location for local and international scientific talent at all levels, who are drawn to this unique, vibrant, inter-disciplinary, and globally connected environment. 

In particular, A*STAR must ensure it has a healthy flow of PhD students and early career PhD researchers into its R&D labs. As a research intensive organisation, young PhD talent is critical to A*STAR as they infuse creative thinking, new ideas, latitude and diversity to the R&D carried out in the research institutes. 

Eventually, when these talent flow out of A*STAR into the wider Singapore and global economy, they will create an outstanding pool of PhD research talent that can be drawn upon and networked for the benefit of Singapore science. This diverse flow of high quality research talent in and out of A*STAR will create a truly unique and dynamic scientific community at one-north, and make A*STAR a nodal point for scientific talent from around the world.
