Operation and Technology Roadmapping (OTR)

As Singapore moves into a knowledge-based economy, innovation and the effective use of technology will become key skills for local enterprises to identify and undertake higher value added activities and remain competitive in a fast changing and dynamic global marketplace

A*STAR’s Research institutes have worked with more than 100 local companies from a wide variety of industry sectors to help them use roadmapping processes to identify technology that will improve their future product or service offering in line with key drivers that may affect their market  Through the Operation and Technology Roadmapping (OTR) initiative, skilled facilitators help the company  plan a technology acquisition and development strategy that really meets their current and future business needs

A roadmap is a document that identifies key requirements for a set of products or service needs. These include critical system requirements, the product and process performance targets and the technology alternatives with milestones for meeting those targets. The technology roadmap provides the 'big' picture view of the technology required to meet the various business and market needs. This ensures that any technology introductions are relevant to the company and will have a direct impact to its business. Financial co-support will also be provided to eligible companies.

Objective

At the end of the technology roadmapping process, your company will have a defined technology roadmap created by your key staff with support from the relevant research institutes' technology specialists. This will enable you to link your business objectives with the required technology development and to plan a R&D strategy with the key themes identified.

Programme Description

To help you create the roadmap, five facilitated workshops (adapted from T-Plan, Cambridge University) have been designed. All the workshops are customised to your organisation with support from the relevant A*STAR technology specialists.

Benefits

Areas where companies have benefited in Singapore include:

  • Linking technology to business and market drivers
  • Identifying and prioritising technology investment
  • Identification of critical and disruptive technologies
  • Coordinating multiple technologies into the business plan
  • Reducing the risk of technology failure and enhancing return on investment for technology implementation
