A*STAR is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor David Srolovitz as Executive Director, Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) w.e.f. 1 Aug 2010.
Professor David Srolovitz is an eminent computational materials scientist who has spent much of his academic career as a tenured faculty member of the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor and Princeton University. He has held leadership positions as Head of Mechanical Engineering at Princeton University and more recently, Dean of Yeshiva University.
Professor Srolovitz has also had close links to SERC having served as its Visiting Investigator, hosted by IMRE, from 2003-2007 and as a Scientist-in-Residence hosted by IHPC since 2007. He was appointed Scientific Director (IHPC) and Scientific Advisor (SERC) in September 2009. In his time with IHPC, Professor Srolovitz has developed a project review system to support internal projects for varying outcomes at IHPC. He is also leading the Institute's efforts in reviewing its staff development framework for all levels of researchers - from postdocs to senior scientists. He is director-designate for the proposed JCO proposal "Enabling Computational and Quantitative Biology" that involves A*STAR staff from several BMRC and SERC research institutes and the universities. In addition, he provides strategic leadership for the A*STAR Centre for Computational Resource Centre, and is central to A*STAR's effort in the National Supercomputing Centre initiative.
Professor Srolovitz takes over from Dr. Raj. Thampuran who has served as Executive Director since 2006.
