Mitsui Chemicals celebrated the opening of the Mitsui Chemicals Singapore R&D Centre (MS-R&D) on the 9th Sept 2011 at the Japanese Association, Singapore. A*STAR would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mitsui Chemicals in the setting up of their first overseas R&D Centre in Singapore, which is located at Science Park II.
Mitsui Chemicals has been a key R&D partner to A*STAR in chemicals and materials technologies. The partnership started with a 2005 master research collaboration agreement with the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES) and Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), which resulted in the setting up of a research laboratory in ICES on Jurong Island under the name of Mitsui Chemicals Singapore Technical Centre. In the 6 years of collaboration, Mitsui Chemicals and A*STAR have jointly developed a range of interesting technologies like novel catalysts for benzene production, novel polyimide laminates for PCB and novel micro-organisms for producing high value chemicals.
Chairman A*STAR was invited as the Guest-of-Honour for the opening celebration. The opening of the Singapore R&D Centre marks another significant milestone in Singapore’s long-standing relationship with Mitsui Chemicals and the company’s recognition of the R&D talent and capabilities in Singapore.
