Biography

Dr. Keith Carpenter
Executive Director, ICES

After completing his PhD studies at the University of Leeds, Dr Carpenter joined Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd (ICI). During his 25 years of employment with ICI, Zeneca, AstraZeneca and Syngenta., he worked in technology development, corporate R&D, corporate engineering and process development. Before he joined ICES, he was a Syngenta Senior Fellow in the Global Specialist Technology group. He was responsible for providing strategic technology development and technical support to Syngenta global supply worldwide in process engineering, particle and colloid technology, and measurement and analysis development. He was also the Global Process Engineering Competence manager, responsible for the career development and professionalism for Syngenta chemical engineers worldwide. Besides engaging in industrial research and development, Dr Carpenter has also been appointed as Visiting Professor to several universities in the U.K. and has served on many government and professional committees. He was a member of the 2001 Higher Education Funding Council Research Assessment panel for chemical engineering in the UK. He is currently a member of the editorial board for Chemical Engineering Science and for Chemical Engineering and Processing and has served on the editorial boards of a number of other learned journals in the past. Before moving to ICES he was a member of the Executive Board of the European Federation of Chemical Engineers. He is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Member of the American Chemical Society. He is also Adjunct Professor of National University of Singapore.
