A*STAR is Singapore’s premier agency for fostering world-class scientific research and talent for a vibrant knowledge-based and innovation-driven Singapore. A*STAR oversees 21 entities across Biopolis and Fusionopolis, where cutting-edge research spans the biomedical, physical and engineering sciences, allowing space for interdisciplinary exploration and truly novel scientific discovery.
IMCB was established in 1987 at the National University of Singapore (NUS) before becoming an autonomous research institute at A*STAR. Funded primarily by A*STAR’s Biomedical Research Council (BMRC), research at IMCB focuses on six major fields: Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Genomics, Structural Biology, Infectious Diseases, Cancer Biology and Translational Research.
As Executive Director of IMCB, you will have the opportunity to lead the institute in driving world-class research and shaping Singapore’s biomedical R&D landscape. Core duties include developing the Institute’s scientific programmes, managing its finances, and providing scientific leadership for its researchers. You will play a key role in aligning IMCB’s activities and resources to A*STAR’s new mission framework of maintaining good science and achieving industrial and economic outcomes by developing more clinical/industrial research and technology platforms.
In addition to being a visionary research leader, you should be an established scientist with an eminent research track record in your chosen field. You should have a proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary research organization on academic and/or industry research programmes. Additionally, you should demonstrate strategic vision to drive both IMCB and the field forward, and possess well-developed interpersonal, communication and mentoring skills.
