BMRC 9th General Grant Call 2010

Jointly launched with NMRC's Individual Research Grant Call

Introduction

A*STAR’s Biomedical Research Council (BMRC) and the MOH’s National Medical Research Council (NMRC) are jointly launching their General Grant Call and Individual Research Grant Call respectively on 03 May 2010 to invite research proposals in basic and translational clinical research that are relevant to human health as well as research that look at the causes, consequences, diagnosis and treatment of human diseases. The closing date of these grant calls is on 03 Jun 2010 at 5 pm for BMRC and 01 Jun 2010 at 5pm for NMRC.

BMRC funds basic biomedical and translational research that is relevant and important to human health. NMRC funds research projects that are translational and/or clinical in nature. Technology-driven proposals with little biological or clinical application will not be funded by BMRC and NMRC.

Eligibility

Researchers from all local publicly funded institutions including restructured hospitals, national specialty centres, research institutes and universities are eligible to take part in the BMRC/NMRC grant call.

There shall be only one Principal Investigator (PI) for each Grant application. The research must be conducted in Singapore

Researchers from overseas institutions and private biotechnology companies can participate as collaborators. However, the terms of collaboration with overseas research institutions and private biotechnology companies must conform to both Councils’ prevailing policies.

Application

Applications to A*STAR can be made electronically at: http://bmrcgrants.a-star.edu.sg. An original application (hard copy) endorsed by the Host Institution must be submitted to BMRC, A*STAR through the Host Institution’s research office.

Applications to NMRC are to be made electronically at https://www.ngager.moh.gov.sg. In addition, an original application (hard copy) endorsed by the Host Institution and a soft copy (Word format) must be submitted to NMRC through the Host Institution’s research office.Please refer to NMRC’s website at: http://www.nmrc.gov.sg for the latest version of the application forms and also the application guide for more details on the application procedure.

Both BMRC and NMRC have incorporated a new Health Research Coding (HRC) system in the application forms. Please visit our websites for more information.

PIs can choose to submit their proposals to either BMRC or NMRC. Duplicate submissions will be rejected by both Councils.

Funding for case control and cohort studies will be capped at $1.5 million over 3 years. The hypotheses to be tested in these studies should be achievable within the 3-year funding period.

Applications will be peer reviewed and funding decisions will be made by the respective Councils. The review process may take up to 6 months.
