Visiting Science Writer

VISITING SCIENCE WRITER-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAMME

Thank you for your interest in the Visiting Science Writer-In-Residence Programme. Applications are now closed. We are currently evaluating all applications and will notify applicants by email.

The Visiting Science Writer-In-Residence Programme is offered to freelance and staff science journalists with an interest in science in Asia and Singapore.

It is an opportunity for science journalists to acquire new perspectives in the dynamic environment of science at the Biopolis and Fusionopolis research hubs of Singapore.

At the same time, the Visiting Science Writer will contribute towards building a new generation of science writers in Singapore.

The four-week programme is hosted and funded by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU)’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information .

Scope of Programme

The Visiting Science Writer can look forward to opportunities for individually-chosen activities at Biopolis and Fusionopolis.

A four-week customised programme will be drawn up for the Visiting Science Writer depending on his/her interests, which may include access to decision-makers for an understanding of Singapore's strategic plans in R&D as well as interviews with scientists on particular research projects.

As a fellow with the NTU Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, he/she shall participate as a guest lecturer at workshops and seminars for journalism students, practising journalists, scientists and other science communicators in Singapore. The craft of science writing will be a preferred theme of the workshops/seminars, but other suitable themes will be discussed with the Visiting Science Writer upon his/her appointment.

There is no obligation to write on Singapore, although the Visiting Science Writer is free to use the material and insights gleaned from his/her experience here for his/her writing.
