Professor Stefan Catsicas is a Swiss Citizen of Italian and Greek origin and has a background that spans academia and business. He obtained his PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland and continued with post-doctoral studies on the principles of neuronal development at the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, USA.

He started his career as the Head of Neurobiology at the Glaxo Institute for Molecular Biology in Geneva, in 1990. Returning to academia, he first joined the University of Lausanne in 1995, as Professor and Chairman of the Cell Biology, and later the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Lausanne) in 2000, as Vice-President Research and Professor of Cellular Engineering.

In 2005 he co-founded a private group of biotechnology companies and came back to academia in 2011 as Provost and Executive Vice President of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.

In 2013, Professor Catsicas was appointed Executive Vice President for Innovation, Technology and R&D, Chief Technology Officer and member of the Executive Board of Nestlé S.A.. He was also the Chairman of the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences and a board member of Nestlé Health Science, Nestlé Skin Health, and of the investment fund Nutrition-Wellness Venture AG. He is also an active board member of the Foundation Solar Impulse, in Lausanne and of A*STAR board as well as of the Biomedical Research Council of A*STAR, in Singapore.

Since January 2018, Professor Catsicas is the founder and managing partner of the Anglo-Swiss advisory and investment company Skyviews Life Science, specialised in personalised health. He is also a board member of Incredible Foods Inc. (Boston).
