As a medical doctor, who worked in the Ministry of Health for more than 10 years, I believe that today’s innovations have resulted in new possibilities that were previously inconceivable. From growing new organs to building replacement tissues and bones, from robot doctors to finding treatments for incurable diseases like Alzheimer’s, the explosion of medical discoveries and possible breakthroughs make these exciting times for patients and healthcare providers alike!

New approaches of combining different scientific disciplines have created new windows for opportunity. Here’s where Singapore’s strength in engineering and medicine stands us in good stead. We are one of the forerunners when it comes to bringing different disciplines together and our scientists, researchers and industry partners are working with the utmost dedication to change the healthcare landscape.

As the new Editor-in-Chief of EXPLOSION, I am honored and humbled to follow the example set by Professor Kong Hwai Loong. He has helped shape a vision of science that is relevant, exciting and challenging to students. I’m thrilled to be part of the EXPLOSION team and believe that exciting scientific adventures lie ahead of us.
