Introduction
This is a collaboration between A*STAR Graduate Academy, NUS and NTU. Scholars will decide whether to register candidature at either NUS or NTU. The research will be primarily undertaken at an A*STAR Research Institute. The 4 year PhD will be followed by a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship at a top overseas university or research laboratory. There are also opportunities for overseas attachment of up to 12 months during the PhD studies.

Eligibility 

• Open to Singaporeans, Singaporean Permanent Residents and ASEAN Nationals*
• Candidates must satisfy criteria for PhD admission to NUS/NTU 
• Graduates with 1st Class Honours; or Graduates with 2nd Upper Class Honours and Good 'A' Levels results
• Candidates must not concurrently hold any other scholarships or fellowships
• Scores from the GRE General Test are required of all applicants.**
• Awardees are expected to attain good GRE scores.The average scores of successful awardees for the combined Verbal and Quantitative components for the last 2 batches (2007 and 2008) were 1360 with a standard deviation of 90. All successful awards would also have to obtain a score of at least 4.5 for the Analytical Writing components

AGS scholarships tenable at NUS/NTU will not be required to do a one year research attachment at A*STAR. They can proceed immediately for their PhD.

* Successful candidates who are not Singaporeans are required to take up Singapore Citizenship.

** All candidates are encouraged to apply with their GRE test scores. Applications without GRE test scores will still be considered but applicants (if awarded the scholarship), will have to satisfy the GRE requirement prior to them embarking on their PhD studies.

Successful candidates will be given support for up to 4 years of academic pursuit.

Successful candidates will receive:

• Monthly sustenance allowance
• Annual book allowance
• Conference allowance
• Computer allowance
• Thesis allowance
• Support for overseas attachment (where applicable)

⁺ All rates/allowances are subject to adjustments by A*STAR from time to time.

Challenging Employment
Upon completion of their studies, candidates will return to contribute to A*STAR's RIs for a service commitment period of up to 3 years.
