Goh Kuan Eng Johnson

Director
A*STAR Quantum Innovation Centre

Prof Johnson Goh is a Director at the A*STAR Quantum Innovation Centre (QInC). He is also a Division Director and Principal Scientist at A*STAR's Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE).

Trained as Physicist (VUW, New Zealand), Engineer (Sheffield, UK) and Educator (NIE/NTU, Singapore), he went on to obtain his PhD in 2007 from the Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computer Technology in the University of New South Wales (Sydney). He joined A*STAR in 2006 and contributed to materials science and engineering research ranging from atomic-scale 3D printing with silicon atoms, to highly conductive 3D printable thermoplastics, to 2D semiconductors, and to quantum devices.

His current endeavour is to meld his multidisciplinary research expertise in quantum information technologies, nanoelectronics, machine learning, and additive manufacturing toward disruptive quantum technologies. To that end, he helped to establish the department of Quantum Technologies for Engineering (QTE) at IMRE in 2021 and served as programme director for A*STAR’s quantum technologies programme since 2022. He headed the QTE department from 2021 to 2022. Prior to this, he served in various management positions as deputy Head of Materials Analysis and Characterisation department from 2012 – 2014, Head of SERC Nano-fabrication, Processing and Characterisation (SnFPC) from 2014 – 2016, and Head of Materials Processing and Characterisation from 2016 – 2017.

He was programme manager for the SERC Pharos Programme in 2D Semiconductor Electronics from 2016 – 2020. He holds adjunct professor positions in both the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, and is a current council member of the Institute of Physics Singapore and its treasurer.
