A*STAR's Organisation Structure
How A*STAR is organised to drive innovation
A*STAR brings together biomedical sciences, physical sciences, and engineering through our research institutes, national centres, and programmes. Our organisational structure connects research excellence, talent development, and industry partnerships to deliver innovation with real impact to Singapore and beyond.
Our Key Divisions
- Biomedical Research Council (BMRC) Advances biosciences and bio-innovation to improve health outcomes and grow Singapore's biomedical economy.
- Innovation and Enterprise (I&E) Translates research into impact by enabling industry partnerships, licensing, venture building and start-up creation.
- Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) Builds capabilities in physical sciences and engineering across sectors such as semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability technologies.
Biomedical Research Council (BMRC)
The Biomedical Research Council (BMRC) supports, oversees and coordinates public sector biomedical research and development activities in Singapore to cultivate a thriving biomedical cluster. At BMRC, we:
- oversee the development of core research capabilities in bioprocessing, genomics and proteomics, molecular and cell biology, bioengineering and nanotechnology, and computational biology.
- actively promote translational medicine and cross-disciplinary research as part of our efforts to advance healthcare.
- support biomedical research in the wider scientific community such as public universities and hospitals.
- foster a strong talent pool in the biomedical sciences.
- promote public awareness of biomedical research through our outreach programmes.
We are able to craft unique value propositions for companies by enhancing the capabilities of the public R&D sector and encouraging flexible thematic partnership programmes that draw upon the multidisciplinary scientific capabilities in Singapore. This in turn serves to attract private R&D biomedical (BMS) investments into Singapore.
Located at the iconic research hub Biopolis, BMRC manages the following Research Entities which carry out a spectrum of R&D activities, ranging across knowledge creation, enabling capabilities, large-scale programmes, and industry oriented activities.
Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC)
The Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) promotes public sector research and development in the physical sciences and engineering. At SERC, we:
- support world-class research in A*STAR institutes in a wide range of fields including communications, data storage, materials, chemicals, computational sciences, microelectronics, advanced manufacturing and metrology.
- plan and actively promote research in strategic areas to encourage greater multidisciplinary research and collaborations across industries, institutes and sectors to create the knowledge and intellectual property that will drive the development of knowledge-intensive industries.
- cultivate and engage an extensive network of industry partners via various funding schemes and attachment programmes to facilitate a seamless flow of technologies from conception to commercialisation.
- identify and nurture talented scientists and engineers to provide a ready pipeline of talent to academic institutions and partners.
A*STAR celebrates International Women's Day
