A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP)

The A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP) is a collaboration between A*STAR and partner universities to provide research opportunities for PhD students at A*STAR Research Institutes. Under this programme, PhD students from overseas universities will spend one to two years at A*STAR Research Institutes under the joint supervision of staff of the A*STAR Research Institutes and the overseas universities.

Eligibility

  • International PhD students with a Bachelor's degree with at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours or equivalent may participate in this programme if their home university supervisor has a collaboration with an A*STAR researcher

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. 

A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on prevailing scholarship policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice.

Award Terms

Awardees typically spend up to 2 years at A*STAR research institutes and are provided with the following during their attachment in Singapore:
  • Monthly stipend of S$2,500
  • One-time airfare grant of up to S$1,500
  • One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000 provided that the student spends at least 1 year at an A*STAR research institute
  • Medical insurance
  • Conference allowance

Student progress report(s) is/are required to be submitted to A*GA for monitoring purposes.

Application Procedure

ARAP-Partner University Scheme

Students from partner universities should contact the respective student office for enquiries on the programme and the application procedure. The list of partner universities and contact points can be accessed here ARAP Partner Universities Contact List

ARAP-Individual Scheme

Interested students from non-ARAP Partner Universities may also come through the ARAP-Individual scheme. This programme runs throughout the year and offers the same terms of support as ARAP-Partner University scheme.

Interested students and/or supervisors are to contact the A*STAR research institute (RI) coordinator directly for placement and/or collaboration opportunities. For the contact list of A*STAR RI coordinators, please click on A*STAR Research Institutes Coordinator List.

Subsequent to this, the RI coordinator will nominate the selected PhD student for the ARAP-Individual programme with the following documents:
Completed ARAP (Individual) Nomination Form
PhD Matriculation letter
Background of how this collaboration was established
Curriculum Vitae 
English-translated Bachelor and Master Transcripts and Certificate
Copy of Identity Card/Passport
Recommendation letters from proposed supervisors

Once the completed application is submitted, assessed and approved, the student will be notified of the outcome. Successful applicants can subsequently start the attachment at the A*STAR RI.
