Prof Ong Yew Soon, Advisor at A*STAR Centre for Frontier AI Research (A*STAR CFAR), has been recognised as one of Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers 2025 in the Cross-Field category — a testament to the broad impact of his work across artificial intelligence (AI), computational intelligence, optimisation, and related interdisciplinary domains.

As A*STAR’s Chief AI Scientist, Prof Ong plays a pivotal role in shaping national AI research efforts and has been instrumental in establishing A*STAR CFAR, which advances work in areas such as resilient AI, sustainable AI, and next-generation AI systems. Under his leadership, his researchers have continued to deliver strong contributions, publishing actively in leading international AI venues.

Prof Ong also serves as a Professor at the School of Computing and Data Science, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore), where he previously chaired the School of Computer Science and Engineering and drove key initiatives in computing, data science, and AI education.

Among his key contributions are several major research initiatives, including the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Centre, the data science programme within the Rolls-Royce@NTU Corporate Lab, and the cognitive and AI corporate lab established with Singtel.

His research spans AI, machine learning, and evolutionary optimisation, and he has held visiting appointments at leading institutions such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Imperial College London, and the University of New South Wales.

As the founding Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence, Prof Ong also contributes to the editorial boards of multiple IEEE journals and is an IEEE Fellow. He plays an active role in the global research community as an Area Chair and Senior Area Chair for leading international AI conferences. His interdisciplinary contributions, particularly in optimisation and computational intelligence, have earned numerous awards and are widely cited worldwide.
