IMB-Olympus Basic, Fluorescence & Confocal Microscopy Course 2018 (May)

This practical course will cover the basics of microscopy, from brightfield through phase contrast and DIC, to widefield fluorescence and confocal microscopy - including the complementary techniques of sample preparation and image analysis. There will be seminars to introduce the concepts followed by the relevant practicals to give all the attendees hands-on experience of how to properly implement these techniques for their biological research. Whilst the talks will be open, practical places are limited.

Superresolution Microscopy Workshop 2017

The importance of the development of superresolution microscopy was recognised with a Nobel prize in 2014 and it has proven to be a critical technique in the biologist toolkit. This workshop will explore the varied approaches and applications of superresolution microscopy. In the 2 days of theory sessions experts will introduce the main flavours of superresolution microscopy; structured illumination microscopy (SIM), stimulated emission depletion microscopy (STED) and single molecule localisation microscopy (SMLM) before we move on to give varied examples of the biological applications in which superresolution is being effectively applied. The 2 days of practical sessions will give the attendees the opportunity for hands-on superresolution imaging.

Image Processing and Analysis with ImageJ/FIJI (Basic Course)

This hand-on practical training course is designed for biologists working with microscopy images who are new to digital image processing and analysis. The participants will be using the FIJI package of ImageJ, which contains many plugins and tools useful for the biologist, installed on their own computers. The course runs frequently on an on-demand basis.
