The Miniaturised Medical Devices (MMD) Programme in IME aspires to innovate and develop state-of-the-art microelectronics technology to solve some of the most challenging problems in healthcare. Specific focus is on devices that are small, affordable and reliable. At the same time, it should consume low power. Examples of such devices include blood flow monitors, sensorised guidewires and neural recording microsystems.

MMD researchers work alongside local hospitals, clinicians, universities and industry partners to design, fabricate, package and characterize highly sensitive in-vivo MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) sensors that can measure various physiological parameters in the human body. Such sensors when combined with Application-Specific-Integrated-Circuits (ASIC) and wireless interface circuits result in highly integrated devices.

MMD program has been awarded the ISO 13485:2003 certification (Medical devices standard) for the design and development of medical devices.
