IME’s researcher Mr. Lim Wei Yi was among the recipients of received A*STAR’s T-Up Excellence Award 2015.
The T-Up Excellence Award, which was held in conjunction with the annual A*STAR SME Day event at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre on 16 April 2015, recognises outstanding A*STAR researchers who have made exceptional contributions during their secondment at local small medium enterprises (SMEs). Mr. Lim Wei Yi (far right) received his award from Mr. S. Iswaran, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry (centre), and Prof. Raj Thampuran, Managing Director of A*STAR.
Mr. Lim was recognised for his contributions to BeCe Pte. Ltd., a company specialising in the production of test sockets for various applications in the semiconductor industry. His expertise in interposers, or electrical interfaces between sockets contributed to BeCe’s new technology development which led to a significant increase in cost savings and business opportunities.
Mr. Lim developed more than five new semiconductor testing products and helped in the characterisation and classification of BeCe’s interposers. This allowed BeCe to achieve tighter inventory control leading to cost savings of up to 30 per cent. The launch of the company's new high frequency test sockets in the American and European regions also secured more than half a million dollars’ worth of orders in 2014, representing a 100 per cent increase in sales compared to the previous year.
