"For leadership in silicon technology and excellence in the management of microelectronics R&D"

Professor Dim-Lee Kwong, Executive Director of Institute of Microelectronics (IME), will be presented with 2011 IEEE Frederik Philips Award, for excellence in management of microelectronics R&D. The award recognises Professor Kwong for outstanding accomplishments in the management of R&D resulting in effective innovation in the electrical and electronics industry. It is among the top professional accolades bestowed by IEEE contemporaries. The IEEE is the world's leading professional body for the advancement of technological innovation.

Professor Kwong joined the ranks of movers and shakers from well-known R&D establishments who were past recipients of the award. The luminaries include John E Kelly - Senior President of IBM; Shojiro Asai - General Manager of Hitachi Central Research Laboratory; Yong-Kyung Lee - President and CEO of Korea Telecom; Gilbert J Declerck - President and CEO of IMEC Belgium. IME is the first Asia organization other than Japan and Korea to be conferred this elite international award.
