Efficient and Broadband Polarization Rotator Using Horizontal Slot Waveguide for Silicon Photonics

The polarization rotator is a critical component in silicon photonics to mitigate against undesirable polarization sensitivity. This paper describes an efficient polarization rotator with low insertion loss. The rotator exhibited high extinction ratio (>14 dB) for transverse-magnetic (TM)-transverse electric rotations and vice-versa, is compact and can be fabricated with CMOS-compatible processes.
