THE POLYMER MATRIX COMPOSITES PROGRAMME

The Polymer Matrix Composites Programe (PMCP) was born out of Joint Industry Sector Planning (JISP) efforts organized by A*STAR SERC and EDB, with participation from local A*STAR Research Institutes (RIs) and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) along with input from industry.  The PMCP strives to bring together and coordinate continuous carbon fibre reinforced polymer composites (CFRPs) related expertise across Singapore’s research ecosystem to cooperatively engage industry collaborators and partners. The collective aims of the programme are twofold: to build up our R&D capability in CFRPs, particularly thermoplastic CFRPs; and to nucleate and grow composite manufacturing activities in Singapore and the region, becoming a regional centre for research supporting the application of composites in ASEAN and global markets in the future.

Building upon existing capabilities, the PMCP will position research activities to address needs throughout the manufacturing community, engaging the full supply chain, and developing end-to-end manufacturing solutions.  Leveraging core research capabilities, the PMCP will offer three key strategic services and solutions: Virtual tools to enable CFRTP manufacturing; processes for thermoplastic prepreg, laminate and tape production (semi-finished products); and production routings and process optimization for high quality, complex CFRP components.
