Seminar on Current EMC Metrology Research at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)

Seminar on Current EMC Metrology Research at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) by Dr Perry F. Wilson, Group Leader for RF Fields Group, NIST, USA

Time: 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., 25 May 2012
Venue: NMC meeting room, Level 2, TÜV SÜD PSB Building, 1 Science Park Drive, Singapore 118221 (map)

Introduction

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA, has a long standing research program in the Electromagnetics Division on metrology related to electromagnetic compatibly (EMC). This seminar will briefly present the past highlights and give an overview of the current research on EMC in NIST. One focus area is field generation and measurement in high multipath environments, as simulated by a reverberation chamber. NIST is working on simulating repeatable multi-path environments over a wide range of K-factors for testing wireless devices, such as cell phones and MIMO systems. Reverberation chamber applications to material shielding measurements and to animal exposure will be mentioned. The recent work in NIST on a quantum SI traceable field probe based on Rabi frequency measurements will be presented.

About the Speaker

Perry F. Wilson (S’78-M’82-SM’93-F’05) received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado in 1983. He currently leads the RF Fields Group in the Electromagnetics Division of the National Institute for Standards and Technology, in Boulder, Colorado. Dr. Wilson’s research has focused on the application of electromagnetic theory to problems in electromagnetic compatibility and metrology. Dr. Wilson is a Fellow of the IEEE, of URSI Commission B, and of the US IEC TC77B TAG, a former Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE EMC Transactions, a recipient of the IEEE EMC Transactions Best Paper Award in 2002, and the current VP for Communication Services on the BoD of the IEEE EMC Society.

Who Should Attend

Senior management, researchers, scientists, engineers and technologist in the industry, research organizations and universities who deal with RF, microwave, and millimetre wave measurements in their work and R&D. Students in science and engineering, especially those in high frequency science and engineering will find the talk educational and enlightening.
