Jia Xu received her PhD degree in Biology in Shanghai Jiao Tong University as an excellent graduate of Shanghai. During the PhD program, she made the intriguing discovery that the changes of gut microbiota were involved in the amelioration of type 2 diabetes by TCM formula and metformin, with Faecalibacterium prausnitzii identified as a key population associated with the alleviation. Later she joined the Systems Biology group in SICS to go on with the gut microbiota study in child health in 2016.
With more than five years’ experiences in gut microbiota, diabetes and obesity, her research interests mainly focused on underlying the interactions between gut microbiota and the host in healthy or diseased conditions. The aim of this research is to identify key phylotypes which can be used to prevent or cure diseases, such as type 2 diabetes.
