Advanced Characterization Techniques for the Manufacturing Industries

Date: 26 Jul 2006 - 30 Aug 2006

Venue: SIMTech, Seminar Room, Valley Block, Level 1

Course Introduction

To maintain and expand their competitive edge in today’s dynamic marketplace modern manufacturers face a wide range of challenges. The ability to accurately characterise materials, test devices and appropriately analyse the results can help companies: reduce design cycles, short cut R & D, solve process problems, conduct failure analysis investigations and enhancing quality. This course aims to provide a practical grounding in a range of advanced analytical techniques. Participants will learn how to select the most appropriate tools for their needs, understand the basic theoretical principles and gain a practical appreciation of the sophisticated instrumentation used and their capabilities. Approximately half the time will be classroom based where students will learn the basic theory the remaining time will involve practical demonstrations using real components. Participants are encouraged to bring samples relevant to their work for testing.
