SIMTech has successfully launched the inaugural AMF'06 on 19th January. The Forum aims to bring together high level corporate decision-makers and researchers for critical discussions and analysis of technology trends and challenges facing the manufacturing industry.

Held together with A*STAR GET-Up seminar, the event was graced by Mr. Peter Ong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and attended by manufacturing companies from various sectors.
In the morning plenary session, Mr. Peter L Hoffman, Director of Global R&D Strategy from Phantom Works of The Boeing Company delivered a talk on technologies, opportunities and challenges faced by industry players in the aerospace industry.

SIMTech For Industry slogan was also unveiled at the event. The slogan signifies our initiative for closer collaborations with the industry. Backing up the initiative was the SIMTech membership launch, a new programme which aims to foster a pro-active research culture in the private sector.

SIMTech Executive Director Dr. Lim Ser Yong said," In order to be competitive in the global landscape, businesses have to constantly innovate and invest in new technologies. R&D is the pathway to building a knowledge-based economy, and for businesses, the only way to achieving long-term manufacturing success."

The Parallel Technical Sessions which took place in the afternoon attracted strong responses from the industry. Categorised in parallel tracks of Biomedical, Electronics & Semiconductor, Logistics & Industrial Informatics, Precision Engineering and Transport, the sessions were conducted by established industry practitioners and academicians.
