The management of product innovation is one of the vital areas that determine the long-term success of an industrial establishment. Of particular significance is the effective and efficient execution of the activities that precede full-scale product development efforts. Industries and designers are constantly faced with the challenge of developing innovative and cost-effective products in the shortest possible time. However, they are often handicapped by the lack of effective intelligent support systems that harness the company’s own extensive product development knowledge. This symposium seeks to explore the potential and application of data mining and knowledge discovery to the process of product development, especially at the concept development phase.
