Seminar on Design and Engineering Simulation for MedTech Industry

Introduction
This half-day seminar covers areas of Thierry Machal's  expertise that includes respiratory, orthopedics and cardiovascular modeling with a special focus on patient specific applications.

Thierry will share how he had interacted with numerous key global industrial players, academic and clinicians thought leaders to watch the first steps of the on-going healthcare revolution. 

The major changes that were observed are related to:

1.  The progressive recognition and conditional adoption of engineering simulation by the FDA and other local agencies

2.  The consideration of "in silico" testing on large cohort of virtual patients early in the product development process to boost product innovation without compromising product safety

3.  The ramping up democratization of engineering simulation and its deployment towards non CAE experts and even to clinicians.

The seminar will also focus on sharing best practices adopted by the industrial medical world to achieve their key business initiatives, among others through an increasing use of engineering simulation.  He will also reveal his direct interactions with the FDA, clinicians and hospitals and share about their expectations regarding the broader use of simulation.

There will be opportunity for open discussion with the audience to learn about specific challenges that they are facing and to investigate avenues for tighter collaboration with the global ANSYS healthcare team to address them.

About the Speaker
Mr Thierry Marchal has been helping companies in advising them how to innovate faster, get to market safer, and see real cost-savings through simulation; exploiting best practices for effective deployment of simulation towards robust design, innovation (smart products), sustainability and productivity. 

Thierry Marchal received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium in 1990 and joined the Polyflow group, a Spin-off of the UCL, in 1991. He completed his training by working towards an MBA in Marketing in 1993 and became the POLYFLOW Product Manager in 1996.  Thierry expanded his industry focus as Global Market Segment Manager for the Materials industries for Fluent in 2004 before extending his current responsibilities as Worldwide Industry Director for the Materials and Consumer Care markets in ANSYS in 2007. 

Thierry is the author of numerous modelling papers addressing major issues encountered in these different industries.  He is responsible for driving the ANSYS engineering solution for the Healthcare industry.  His main expertise includes respiratory, orthopaedics and cardiovascular modelling with a special focus on patient specific applications.
