Introduction:Dr Luo is currently a senior research engineer with the Mechatronics group of SIMTech. She received her BSc, MEng. and PhD from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), China, in 1988, 1991, and 1999 respectively. She worked in the School of Material Science and Engineering of HUST as an Assistant Professor, Lecturer, and Associate Professor before joining SIMTech in 1999. Dr Luo has more than 10 years of experience in research and application of quality monitoring systems for arc and laser welding processes. She has extensive knowledge in the use of optical, acoustic and visual sensors for process monitoring and defect diagnosis. Since 2003, she focused more on vision and force-based control technologies for micromanipulation and alignment applications.
Research Interest:
  • Sensor fusion for process automation, defect inspection and quality monitoring, including vision, laser based scanning, force sensing, optical and acoustic emissions.
  • Force and vision based sensing and control for micromanipulation.
  • Automated and robotized material processing, including arc and laser welding of steels, aluminum, and titanium.
