Precision Measurements
Introduction:

Dr Joseph Lifton earned his MEng degree (First Class Hons) in Mechanical Engineering in 2011 from the University of Southampton which included a semester studying computer aided engineering at ESTACA, Paris. He completed his PhD in 2015 with the University of Southampton and spent two years with the Precision Measurements Group at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) as part of the A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP). After completing his PhD Dr Lifton joined the University of Southampton Malaysia Campus (USMC) as a lecturer and then senior lecturer in engineering design. In 2017 Dr Lifton re-joined the Precision Measurements Group at SIMTech where he is now working on developing various X-ray based measurement systems.

Research Interest:

The development of X-ray computed tomography (CT) for dimensional metrology, measurement uncertainty analysis, X-ray CT image artefact correction, the measurement and characterisation of complex surfaces.
