Introduction:

Dr Ying Zhang received his BEng, MEng, and PhD degrees from Southeast University, P R China in 1989, 1992 and 1995 respectively. From 1996 to 1997, he was a postdoctoral fellow and a visiting fellow respectively in Nanyang Technological University and Melbourne University. Since 1998, he has been working with Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology of A*STAR, now as a Principal Scientist, Division Director of Manufacturing Automation Division and Director of Research Liaison Office of SIMTech. Dr Zhang is one of the first batch of recipients of the National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award given by the State Council of China in 1999. He is also the recipient of the Best Project Award of Photonics Europe’2004 from the European Commission and SPIE in 2004, the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award in 2005 and 2017, the A*STAR TALENT Award 2017, and the Best Paper Awards in a number of international conferences. He has published over 150 journal papers in his research areas. Dr Zhang is also active in technology adoption and transfer, and he has initiated a number of industry initiatives which integrate research, technology development and transfer, and manpower development in the areas of optics and industrial automation to help local companies improve their competitiveness. His current research interests include optical measurements, near-field optics, X-ray optics, ultra-fast lasers, image reconstruction, and system theory.
