The 9th edition of the Manufacturing Productivity Technology Centre (MPTC) Annual Conference 2019 was a success, attended by 400 guests from industry, trade associations, government agencies and the research community. The event theme, Digital Ecosystems: Accelerating Growth through Deep Partnerships, aims to generate awareness, understanding and showcase the benefits of building digital ecosystems through public-private partnerships.

In his inaugural Welcome Remarks, Dr David Low, Executive Director, SIMTech, highlighted companies’ partnership journeys in productivity and digital transformation. Guest-of-Honour, Mr Suresh Sachi, Deputy Chief Executive, A*STAR, addressed the use of technology and innovation through R&D, talent development to build a skilled workforce for greater productivity and sustainable growth.

One of the event highlights was the honouring of 22 companies with the Partners Recognition Award for their efforts and advancements in continuous transformation journey. The sharing by distinguished industry leaders such as Mr Jeremy Fong, CEO, Fong’s Engineering and Manufacturing and Mr Lim Hock Chee, CEO, Sheng Siong Group were well received by attendees. There was also a exhibition showing the Digital Transformation journey for companies, including technology & partners offered by MPTC to help companies to understand this complex and challenging topic better.

Two public-private research collaboration partnerships were signed, namely on Cyber Physical Production Systems (CPPS) with Agilent Technology Singapore, Asterisk Computer (Far East), Philips Electronics (Singapore) and Teckwah Industrial Corporation. The other was with e-Genie Forum, a maritime supply services trade association, focusing on the use of Artificial Intelligence and blockchain technologies.

A publication featuring anecdotal success stories of companies productivity & digital transformation journey was also launched. It hopes to inspire more companies to embark on such journeys.
