I²R Research Team

Dr. Fong Wee Teck (Louis) is the head of the Workplace Efficiency and Safety Technology center (WEST) at the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), A*STAR, Singapore.

He led and delivered multiple computer vision and 3D scanning based projects for public agencies, local companies and MNCs such as Hyundai Motors Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), Toshiba Tec, Tectus Dream Labs (Screening Eagle), SIAEC and CAAS.

From 2021 -2023, he led the team in a City of Tomorrow grant project together with HDB, where they were directly responsible for scanning and maintaining the digital twin of ongoing construction at HDB site, using lidar and camera for visual inspections.

Since 2019, he has been leading a team in a funded project titled “Nanoantenna Spatial Light Modulators for Next-Gen Display Technologies” where they built real time algorithms for dynamic computational laser holograms.

His earlier accolade includes the participation and recognition in prestigious competitions like the Volkswagen Tracking Challenges, where he showcased his expertise in computer vision-based 3D positioning. Notably, he clinched the top position for the 3D CAD to 2D image positioning task in 2015.

His earlier paper on in-field calibration of accelerometer and gyroscope axis misalignment and scale offset, using only the earth’s gravity vector, was also selected as one of the highlights of the Measurement Science and Technology journal in 2008.
