Q.InC Wang Tong

Deputy Director
A*STAR Quantum Innovation Centre

Dr. Wang Tong is the Deputy Director of A*STAR Quantum Innovation Centre (Q.InC). He is also the chief of Q.InC’s Quantum Coordination Office (QCO), overseeing all operations within Q.InC and driving efforts for external funding initiatives.

Wang Tong was awarded the A*STAR’s National Science Scholarship (NSS) for his undergraduate and PhD. During his studies, he has won several accolades such as the Springer-Nature Award, C.A.R Taylor Prize, UK Nitride Consortium Best Presenter, and A*STAR Roll of Honour. Trained as a quantum physicist, Wang Tong obtained his DPhil (PhD) degree from the University of Oxford in 2019 and joined IMRE shortly afterwards to continue his research.

At IMRE, he worked on probing phenomena in 2D materials and devices with quantum optics, as efforts towards building solid-state qubits for scalable quantum computing. As part of a team, he has won the IMRE Best Paper (Bronze) Award. Wang Tong also worked with Q.InC Director, Prof. Goh, and IMRE QTE Deputy Head, Dr. Calvin Wong, in editing and co-authoring a book publication on Valleytronics in 2D Materials.

In 2021, Wang Tong transitioned into research management and joined IMRE’s Research Planning Office. As a STORM-certified OTR facilitator, he led RPO’s OTR team in creating IMRE’s quantum research roadmap. With his expertise and leadership in OTR and competitive technology landscape consultancy, he has been helping drive IMRE’s major grant pipelines for 2 out of the 4 research divisions.

In 2023, Wang Tong started working for A*STAR Chief Quantum Scientist and has been dedicating his efforts as part of Q.InC’s management team to the centre’s establishment, development, and growth.
