ETPL works with Industry & A*STAR research institutes to identify new technology areas early in the research value chain to develop application driven, multi-disciplinary projects and drive these with commercialization outcomes firmly in mind. In the hope of precipitating these projects into their next lap of marketable commercial applications, ETPL provides gap funds to inject resources, like manpower and funds for further development and testing.
Gap funding for co-development is applicable for A*STAR technologies where:
Potential licensees takes up A*STAR technologies
These technologies still require further research and/or development efforts for them to be commercial ready
Potential licensees are willing to collaborate with ETPL and the research institutes in co-development efforts
An example of such a co-development project is the analytics engines for content profiling and intent classification between I2R and SME aSpecial Media Pte Ltd. With the licensed software, aSpecial Media would be able to build interest profiles of online users based on their browsing patterns and history over multiple websites, and provide time-relevant advertisements tailored to the needs of each user.
Another example is SME Xjera Labs Pte Ltd’s non-exclusive license for ADSC’s multi-outlet entity detection and classification software as a result of its co-development partnership with ETPL on the gap project to develop video intelligence technologies for retail (VITR). Through its collaboration with ETPL and ADSC, Xjera Labs was able to diversify beyond provision of security surveillance solutions to address the retail analytics market.
