At A*STAR, we are committed to nurturing young talents with a passion for science. That’s why we partner a number of organisations such as the Ministry of Education and Science Centre Singapore to organise a variety of nationwide competitions and science fairs that will enable our budding scientists, engineers and innovators to demonstrate their skills and talents. From the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair and the A*STAR Talent Search to the National Science Challenge and the Science Buskers Festival, our competitions are designed to stimulate our youths’ creativity and bring life to the sciences.
A*STAR TALENT SEARCH
Open to winners from the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair.
An annual competition aimed at students aged between 15 to 18, the A*STAR Talent Search (ATS) recognises students who have a strong aptitude in science and engineering and a passion for research. Participants get the opportunity to showcase their scientific research projects to a distinguished panel of judges helmed by a Nobel Laureate as the Chief Judge with researchers from A*STAR research institutes, local and international universities.
The ATS and Singapore Science and Engineering Fair Awards Presentation Ceremony will be held in April.
SINGAPORE SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR
Open to all upper secondary and JC students aged between 15 and 21
Pit your scientific and engineering prowess against the best in the nation in the Singapore Science & Engineering Fair (SSEF)! In this national competition, you’ll take up the challenge of working on innovative research projects in the science and engineering disciplines and present your research findings at the SSEF.
The SSEF final judging will be held in March.
The SSEF is affiliated to the prestigious Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), regarded as the world's largest pre-college celebration of science. Winners from the SSEF are selected to represent Singapore at the Intel ISEF in the United States each year and strong contenders go on to vie for the A*STAR Talent Search.
NATIONAL SCIENCE CHALLENGE
Open to secondary three students
Are you game enough for science? Enter the National Science Challenge (NSC) and show off your knowledge and skills!
A highly competitive televised game show that is broadcasted on MediaCorp Channel 5, the NSC provides secondary three students a chance to put their skills and knowledge to the test during studio rounds and at on-site challenges hosted by A*STAR research institutes and other research organisations.
Broadcasted from August to October, the NSC series fosters creativity in the areas of science, technology and biomedicine.
SCIENCE BUSKERS FESTIVAL
Express your love for science in any number of creative ways at the Science Buskers Festival!
Organised as a competition, the Science Buskers Festival is an excellent platform for spreading key messages on the importance of bringing science to life and developing your communication skills. Sign up for the opportunity to perform a "show-and-tell" on any science topic. Judging is based on public votes and judges' scores.
