Biomedical Engineering Programme (BEP) 2020 Grant Call

BEP aims to support clinically-driven MedTech innovation with promising commercialization potential. All funded projects must demonstrate high potential for commercial outcomes and show a high likelihood of rapid impact on patient care.

Funding Principles

Project Duration: 12-18 Months
Funding Quantum: up to S$500k/project

The BEP grant shall support projects in achieving proof-of-concept (i.e. concept generation, testing of a technology on the clinical need, up to early prototype testing; TRL 2-4, based on the TRL scale in the Annex of the Information Deck). Basic principles of the technology must have already been established and validated prior to the BEP.


Eligibility Criteria

Teams must comprise at least:

  • 1 Clinical PI; with a primary appointment in a public healthcare institution or academic medical school in Singapore and be salaried by the institution, and
  • 1 Technical PI; with a primary appointment at A*STAR.

Teams may choose to include multiple performers as Co-Investigators (Co-Is) on a single project, including performers from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and other public-funded research entities, but this is not mandatory.

All researchers from A*STAR (SERC and BMRC), public healthcare institutions and IHLs can participate as Co-Investigators and can receive funding for manpower, equipment and other operating expenses as agreed by all parties in the grant.
