Designing Innovative and Sustainable Solutions to Accelerate Business Growth Workshop, 7 Mar 2023

On 7 March 2023, we hosted a full capacity workshop focusing on Designing Innovative and Sustainable Solutions to Accelerate Business Growth, through a collaborative effort between Innovation Factory (IF) and 8nalytics to help SMEs in the following areas:

• Generating new business opportunities by exploring innovative solutions with IF’s innovative engineering support.

• Managing dynamic competitive environments more efficiently with Strategic Business management and sourcing of funding expertise from 8nalytics.

• Enhancing business decision-making and employees’ core capabilities with training and coaching under Skills Future Funding at SMU.

One of the key takeaways which the participants benefitted most from, was learning about the different types of government grants available to SMEs to defray operational costs, such as the Enterprise Innovation Scheme.

"Re-Think" Design Workshop, National Junior College, 30 Jan 2023

Talk about starting the New Year with a bang! National Junior College’s Creative Arts Programme students kicked off 2023 with a 2.5-day customised workshop, hosted by SIMTech Innovation Factory. The students were treated to an exciting array of talks, hands-on workshops, and tours around SIMTech & ARTC, centred around the theme of #SustainableMaterials, #DesignThinking and #ReManufacturing.

We were delighted to have our industry partners from Para ( ) Studios, MING Labs and Zeniko World engaging with the students in various hands-on workshops. The students had a go at applying design thinking methodologies, guided by our in-house Product Designers Audrey Lim, Duane Lye and Rachel Ng, who took turns sharing their experiences in creating commercial products. They were also introduced to a short segment on Consumer Behaviour and the IDEA business model led by Darren Ong, and got to know more about Innovation Factory’s 3D printing capabilities by Jasper Chua.

Through educational initiatives, SIMTech Innovation Factory hopes to inspire more students to embark on #Manufacturing and #Engineering career paths in future. We open a window into the world of manufacturing; showcasing cutting-edge science and technology, and vast areas of skills and expertise involved to enable Singapore to stay relevant in manufacturing on a global stage.

Introduction to Product Design & Manufacturing, Boon Lay Garden Primary School, 1 Nov 2022

SIMTech’s Innovation Factory, together with the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC), were glad to host a second learning journey for Boon Lay Garden Primary School, this time for a class of Primary 6 students! The students were introduced to various topics related to manufacturing and #productdevelopment, from #productdesign and the IDEA model to remanufacturing. Henry Tan, co-founder of Smooder, which produces machines for delicious smoothies-on-demand, also shared about Smooder's story and product development journey with Innovation Factory!

The tour concluded with a walkabout of ARTC, where the students explored different innovation technologies such as AR/VR, #cobots, and #computervision.

The learning journey was part of SIMTech and ARTC’s initiatives to enrich Singapore’s manufacturing human capital, from training courses to upskill the current workforce, to educating and inspiring our young ones, who are our #FutureofManufacturingWorkforce. With a vibrant and growing pool of engineers, scientists, and researchers, Singapore’s high-value advanced manufacturing industry can continue to uplift our nation’s and other global economies.

Innovation Factory Open House Event / Building a Sustainable Growth Plan, 20 Oct 2022

The Innovation Factory organised the first open house event at Innovation Factory CT2B, with a special workshop focusing on the importance of using sustainability in businesses. The Operation & Technology Roadmapping (OTR) team from the Innovation & Enterprise Division, A*STAR, also introduced the OTR model as a business planning tool, and how it can help shape and define business mapping and growth for long term development and profitability.

The students were introduced to various topics related to manufacturing and #productdevelopment, from #productdesign and the IDEA model to re-manufacturing. Anna Lam, co-founder of Crunch Cutlery, an edible cutlery brand, also shared about Crunch Cutlery’s story and product development journey with Innovation Factory! The tour concluded with a walkabout of ARTC, where the students explored different innovation technologies such as AR/VR, #cobots and #computervision.
