A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP)

The A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP) is a collaboration between A*STAR and partner universities to provide research opportunities for PhD students at A*STAR Research Institutes. Under this programme, PhD students from overseas universities will spend a minimum of one to a maximum of two years at A*STAR Research Institutes under the joint supervision of staff of the A*STAR Research Institutes and the overseas universities.

Eligibility

  • International PhD students with a Bachelor's degree with at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours or equivalent may participate in this programme if their home university supervisor has a collaboration with an A*STAR researcher

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. 

A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on prevailing scholarship policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice.

Coverage

Awardees are provided with the following during their attachment in Singapore:
  • Monthly stipend of S$2,500
  • One-time airfare grant of S$1,500
  • One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000
  • Housing subsidy
  • Medical insurance
  • Conference allowance

Student progress report(s) is/are required to be submitted to A*GA for monitoring purposes.

Application Procedure

ARAP-Partner University Scheme

ARAP-Individual Scheme

Interested students from non-ARAP Partner Universities may also come through the ARAP-Individual scheme. This programme runs throughout the year and offers the same terms of support as ARAP-Partner University scheme.

Students interested in pursuing an attachment at A*STAR Research Institutes (RI) under the ARAP-Individual scheme should complete this application form for shortlisting by the RI. For attachment opportunities at the Bioinformatics Institute (BII), Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS), and/or NanoBio Lab (NBL), interested students should email the following RI coordinators directly for placement.
