As an academic department of the University of Warwick, the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) was founded in 1980 to reinvigorate manufacturing to improve the competitiveness of organisations through the application of value adding innovation, new technologies, and skills deployment, bringing academic rigour to industrial and organizational practice.
It is one of the world’s leading research and education groups, with 500 people working in seven countries. Over the last 25 years, WMG has worked with over 500 companies to train their key executives to become effective leaders. Alumni of its EngD programmes include directors from companies such as GE Aviation, Rolls-Royce and Tata Motors as well as owners of small and medium enterprises.

The EngD degree provides a more industry-oriented doctorate than the traditional PhD. EngD candidates can expect to carry out applied research under the themes of Design, Materials, Manufacturing, Systems and Business that result in innovative solutions for real-world manufacturing industry problems. The programme will help candidates to develop skill sets to apply innovative thinking, carry out rigorous analysis and good management practices in order to be ahead of competitors. EngD candidates are evaluated on their portfolio, which comprises coursework, project reports, publications and a personal profile that demonstrate their innovation and project leadership abilities.
WMG’s Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programme in Advanced Manufacturing is the first of its kind in Singapore. The four-year scholarship programme comprises two years of studies at WMG in the UK, and two years of research based in an A*STAR’s Research Institute in Singapore. WMG will provide taught classroom modules on related subjects. These include aspects of manufacturing significant to the economy, such as 3D Additive Layer Manufacturing, big data analytics, biomedical manufacturing, and robotics. EngD candidates will work with supervisors who have both academic and industry expertise. Graduates of the programme will be conferred an EngD degree by the University of Warwick.
