“Biotrans has supported Teapasar, a local startup enterprise, in their technology development of their e-commerce platform for teas. Biotrans is one of the two research partners of Teapasar to develop an initial fingerprinting method to assign unique identification to each tea variant. Our research team also worked on developing prediction models based on the fingerprint and taste profile of tea variants. These two components are significant to the overall e-commerce platform which aims to authenticate teas sold by retailers or wholesalers as well as match and recommend teas to customers based on their taste preferences.
Teapasar officially launched their e-commerce platform for teas at the start of Singapore Tea Festival on 21 September 2018. The launch was graced by Ms. Sim Ann, the Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth who has been focusing on supporting local SMEs in growing their businesses. Representatives of Biotrans and NUS FST were present during the launch ceremony to ink the subsequent phase of the research partnership with the company respectively. Biotrans will be working on optimizing the fingerprinting method and prediction modelling developed so results are consistent and reproducible on a larger scale and the entire process is more cost-effective and efficient.”Read more
