Industry Development Division
Today’s global economy demands the continuous quest for excellence, for that competitive edge which sets one company apart from another. Data Storage Institute (DSI) established the Industry Development Division (IDD) in 2003 to assist companies in the transfer of technologies and expertise, through the Agency for Science, Technology And Research (A*STAR) and its initiatives.
IDD represents a concerted effort on the part of DSI to forge closer and stronger bonds with the industry, playing a key role in Singapore’s electronics sector.
As an internationally-renowned research, engineering and prototyping Institute, DSI collaborates with companies of all sizes on industry-directed R&D and in the use of new technology. Companies stand to benefit by leveraging on the technical expertise of DSI through pre-competitive research, developmental projects and prototyping of products in areas of data center solutions, mechanical design and simulation, device fabrication and nanotechnology. DSI helps companies maintain a competitive edge in the modern economy, as well as advance their technological expertise.
Development and Analytical Services
Depending on the scale of development required by our partners, less than full-fledged collaborations are available to cater to requests for one-off development work. Pertaining to analytical services, DSI offers a wide range of advanced characterization and failure analysis equipment to meet the needs of the industry.
Industry Research Consortium
DSI drives multi-party research consortia in different technological areas to help industry players in either solving common problems, or building pre-competitive technology platforms, or accelerating the commercialization process of next generation technologies. DSI-driven consortia serve to manage the capabilities of each consortium member, and design focus-interest projects within the consortium.
Enabling Local Companies and Start-Ups
DSI supports the Growing Enterprises with Technology Upgrade (GET-Up) program to help SMEs achieve technological competence and enhance their technological edge.
The GET-Up initiatives include:
- Technology for Enterprise Capability Upgrading (T-Up) – a multi-agency effort which involves seconding Research Scientists and Engineers (RSEs) to local enterprises.
- Operation and Technology Road-mapping (OTR) – provides the "big" picture view of the technology required to meet various business and market needs. Financial co-support will also be provided to eligible companies.
- Technical Advisory Support (TA) – access to professional advice by senior research staff at A*STAR Research Institutes on technological related matters and challenges.
Technology Transfer and Licensing
To facilitate the transfer of DSI’s technologies to the industry, DSI provides licensing of its comprehensive portfolio of technology or Intellectual Property (IP) to enterprises through A*STAR’s Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd (ETPL). DSI maintains its relevance to the industry through the licensing of IP which benefits enterprises in the form of new products and services.
