AI for MANUFACTURING

As modern manufacturing becomes more complex, companies face challenges such as operational inefficiencies, supply chain disruptions, and increasing demands for sustainability. AI-driven solutions are key to overcoming these hurdles, enabling predictive maintenance, intelligent decision-support tools, and supply chain optimisation that enhance manufacturing efficiency and resilience.

A*STAR is driving this transformation by developing and deploying cutting-edge AI technologies that streamline processes across the manufacturing value chain. Beyond operations, our AI research extends to materials science, resource planning, waste minimisation, and process control, delivering innovations that not only strengthen the manufacturing sector but also create impact across multiple industries.

Key Projects

Sectoral AI Centre of Excellence for Manufacturing (AIMfg)

AIMfg

In collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), A*STAR has established the Sectoral AI Centre of Excellence for Manufacturing (AIMfg) as a pilot initiative to drive AI innovation in the manufacturing sector. Launched in September 2024, AIMfg is part of Singapore’s National AI Strategy 2.0 (NAIS 2.0) and reflects A*STAR’s commitment to building a thriving industry ecosystem that generates significant value from AI. AIMfg helps businesses overcome common AI adoption challenges, such as limited expertise and data availability, by providing tailored AI solutions, scalable models, and an AI Sandbox for experimentation. Through these offerings, A*STAR enables manufacturers to accelerate AI deployment, validate new technologies, and drive impactful innovation in the sector.

Accelerated Materials Development for Manufacturing (AMDM)

A*STAR's Accelerated Materials Development for Manufacturing (AMDM) program aims to speed up materials research and development (R&D) by over 10 times. This is achieved through high-throughput automation, advanced characterization techniques, and machine learning optimization of experimental conditions. By integrating AI-driven predictions and inverse design, the program accelerates the discovery of new materials, such as polymers and nanoparticles, and optimizes fabrication processes for various applications, improving efficiency and reducing time-to-market.

Accelerated Catalyst Development Platform (ACDP)

ACDP speeds up the discovery and development of catalysts by 10 times or more using high-throughput experimentation (HTE), computational modelling, and AI-driven predictive analytics, with the aim to create catalysts with higher selectivity for commercial use.

Traditionally, developing catalysts—such as those for turning syngas into useful fuels—takes decades of trial and error. ACDP streamlines this process, with a strong focus on CO₂ conversion to help reduce carbon emissions. These catalysts play a key role in green chemistry, clean energy, and sustainable manufacturing.
