AI for Online Trust and Safety (OTS)

In today’s digital landscape, online harms such as misinformation and harmful content pose significant risks to individuals and communities. Ensuring a safe and trustworthy online environment is crucial as digital platforms continue to evolve. To address these challenges, the Centre for Advanced Technologies in Online Safety (CATOS) was established to develop cutting-edge technological solutions that enhance online safety and build a more secure digital society.

Through deep-tech research, CATOS focuses on:

  1. Preventing harmful content at the source with proactive AI-driven interventions.
  2. Enabling large-scale early detection to swiftly identify and contain harmful content.
  3. Empowering communities by strengthening public resilience against online threats.

Since its launch in 2023, CATOS has developed eight distinct mid-to-high readiness technologies and made them accessible to the ecosystem, with six adopted by key organisations over nine deployments, including the creation of one successful spin-off company.

CATOS also serves in critical national events, public education initiatives, and ecosystem-building endeavours, collectively safeguarding electoral integrity, lifting Singaporeans' AI literacy and awareness of deepfakes, and selecting strong new technological pipeline projects to tackle emerging online safety threats.
