Mr. Karianto Leman is the Head of the Safety and Security Division at the the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), A*STAR, Singapore. The division builds integrated AI solutions involving video, audio, and multi-modal sensors to address unmet needs identified by collaborators from public agencies and private companies. He led as Principal Investigator in several large-scale R&D and deployment projects in action/behavior/emotional state recognition, retail AI, video sensemaking for emergency platform, edge AI, and intelligent video surveillance for public security and key installation protection. Some of the projects are in video AI based security monitoring for National Day Parade and other SAF organized events, Singapore Safe City Initiatives (SSIPO), and Jurong Lake District Smart City. He contributed to the trials and technical specs in government tenders of PolCam 2.0 and behavioral recognition system for prison.
Mr. Karianto Leman graduated with MSEE from the University of Southern California and BSEE from Virginia Tech, USA. Prior to I2R, he worked for MNCs in Hong Kong and Singapore. Karianto holds several patents in Computer Vision related field and had published more than 30 international peer-reviewed research papers.
