Key Capabilities

Institute of Bioengineering and Bioimaging Research Areas

The Institute of Bioengineering and Bioimaging (IBB) spearheads multi-disciplinary, application-driven research at the interface of biology, chemistry, engineering, imaging, artificial intelligence, and medicine, with a focus on translation and real-world impact.

The institute’s research activities are focused in three main areas:
1.    Biomedical Devices & Diagnostics
2.    Bioengineering Systems
3.    Biophotonics & Bioimaging

WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER

IBB is industry-ready and committed to providing high quality bioengineering and bioimaging technologies to government, clinical and industrial partners, leveraging on its human capital of over 130 bioengineers, imaging experts, biologists, chemists, physicists, as well as clinicians and state-of-the-art bioengineering and bioimaging research facilities (laboratories / instrumentations).

IBB scientists have an excellent track record of methodological and instrumental development both intramurally and in association with academic, clinical and industrial partners, delivering innovative solutions in strategic areas of national priority such as cancer, infectious diseases, metabolic/cardio-vascular disorders, neuronal/psychiatric dysfunctions, and food & nutrition.

IBB’S KEY CAPABILITIES

  • Antimicrobial/antiviral engineering and biocompatible coatings
  • Bio-photonics solutions for skin-, fem-, cardiovascular/respiratory health-tech and surgical/intra-operative applications
  • Cell/tissue engineering and bio-sample processing technologies
  • Characterization analysis of chemical and biological samples (inc., NMR)
  • In vitro diagnostics
  • Cutting-edge Deep-learning/AI augmented bio-medical image/signal processing
  • Targeted gene delivery systems (mRNA, DNA, siRNA, oligonucleotide, etc.)
  • Targeted drug delivery systems (drugs of various physical and chemical properties)
  • Pre-clinical and clinical imaging (Optical, MRI/MRS, MPI, Hyperpolarized-MRS, PET/SPECT/CT: multimodal/hybrid imaging for structural, functional, metabolic & pharmacological investigations)
Our diverse mix of experts allows IBB to meet real-world needs with multi-disciplinary approaches, particularly for the development of novel diagnostics, therapeutic carriers/formulations, research and imaging devices, biomaterials and reagents and beyond. We are also plugged into A*STAR-wide expertise that can be tapped on to develop an ideal solution for your needs.

WORK WITH US

IBB offers various partnership models, such as joint R&D lab, research collaboration, service contract &/or technology licensing, that will suite your needs whether you are a clinician, entrepreneur, early-stage start-up/spin-off, SME/LLC or MNC. We are keen to develop application-specific foreground IP for novel problem statements from our partners.

IBB’s technologies have been commercialised through more than 10 spin-off companies like Lucence, InvitroCue, Polymore Greentech, Respiree, AdipoSight.ai, and licenced to many others. We are open to discuss co-commercialisation strategies that are right for your needs.

For R&D collaboration/licensing and/or service contract enquiries or if you would just like to get to know us better, please reach-out to us at enquiry@ibb.a-star.edu.sg.
