Established in 2003, the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) is the world’s first bioengineering and nanotechnology research institute. The Molecular Engineering Laboratory (MEL) joined IBN in 2019, forming the institute’s third pillar of research. The institute’s research activities are focused on advanced biomaterials, molecular engineering and xenobiology.
IBN has contributed significantly to the development of Singapore’s research capabilities through scientific breakthroughs and innovations. The Institute has established several industrial, clinical and academic collaborations and spin-off companies to commercialize its technologies.
