A*STAR Scholarships


In line with its thrust to develop human capital, A*STAR offers a variety of awards and scholarships to scientific talent at all stages of their careers, from young students and undergraduates to postdoctoral fellows.


A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS)

This is a joint collaboration between A*STAR Graduate Academy, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), this scholarship funds PhD studies in Singapore. Students will have an opportunity to undertake research at his/her chosen A*STAR Research Institute and register candidature at either NUS or NTU.

A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP)

The A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP) is a collaboration between A*STAR and overseas universities to provide research opportunities at A*STAR Research Institutes and Consortia. Under this programme, PhD students may spend one to two years at an A*STAR Research Institute under the supervision of staff of the A*STAR Research Institute and the university.

National Science Scholarships (NSS)

A*STAR also offers the National Science Scholarships (NSS) which aims to nurture Singapore's bright, young and passionate research talents for the challenges of a research career in Science. This scholarship supports both undergraduate studies as well as PhD studies.

Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA)

The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a collaboration between the A*STAR, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU). It is an excellent opportunity for overseas students interested in pursuing a PhD in Singapore universities, the NUS or NTU.

Under the SINGA, students will receive PhD training at their chosen lab at A*STAR Research Institutes or two of the top universities in Asia- NUS and NTU. Students will work in a multi-cultural environment, alongside distinguished and world-renowned researchers in state-of-the-art facilities. Singapore is the gateway to some of the fastest-growing economies in the Asia-Pacific region. With a PhD education in Singapore, students are well-positioned to establish global links that will take their research career to greater heights.

Singapore International Pre-Graduate Award (SIPGA)

The Singapore International Pre-Graduate Award (SIPGA) supports short-term research attachments for international students at A*STAR. It provides a unique opportunity for top overseas students to experience the vibrant scientific environment in A*STAR Research Institutes and Consortia. Students will be able to work with distinguished and world-renowned researchers in A*STAR labs. This award will normally be for students in the later years of a Bachelor or Master level program.
