Molecular Carcinogenesis
The Sabapathy lab (https://www.thesabapathylab.com) is focused (i) on understanding the mechanistic basis of cellular transformation, and resistance to cancer therapy, by investigating the key p53/p73 tumor-suppressor pathway; & (ii) on generating novel therapeutic strategies to develop tumor- and mutation-specific therapeutic molecules. PuRPOSE programme
Brief Biosketch

Pierce Chow is an academic surgeon and Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School. He is concurrently Senior Consultant Surgeon at the National Cancer Centre Singapore and the Singapore General Hospital, NMRC Senior Clinician Scientist, Adjunct Faculty at the Genome Institute of Singapore and Research Director at the Institute of Cellular and Molecular Biology. He trained in Liver Transplantation with Professor Russell Strong in Australia. In 1998, he co-founded the Asia-Pacific Hepatocellular Carcinoma (AHCC) Trials Group and has been the protocol chair of 5 multi-center clinical trials that have involved more than 30 centers in 14 countries. He was conferred the NMRC National Outstanding Clinician Scientist Award for improving clinical outcomes with his research on Liver Cancer in 2012.

Prof Chow was awarded the NMRC grant for the Translational and Clinical Research (TCR) Flagship Program in Liver Cancer in 2016.  Building on positive results of earlier genetic and immunology studies in surgically resected HCC, Prof Chow now leads a multi-national study on how genomic heterogeneity and the immune micro-environment in HCC impact clinical outcomes. The Program will identify clonally dominant drivers, bring precision medicine to individuals with HCC and initiate new multi-national clinical studies across the Asia Pacific to advance treatment strategies for HCC. In 2017 Prof Chow was awarded the BMRC IAF-PP Grant to develop a patient-specific diagnostic and predictive platform for Precision Medicine in HCC.

Human Cancer Genomics and Therapeutics
Professor Hui Kam Man is currently serving as Deputy Group Director (Translational Research) at SingHealth.  He is also a Principal Investigator at the Division of Cellular and Molecular Research, National Cancer Centre Singapore.  In addition, he holds Adjunct Professorships with the Program in Cancer & Stem Cell Biology, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and the Dept of Biochemistry, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.  Besides being a Joint Research Director at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), Prof. Hui also holds an Adjunct Senior Investigator position at the Singapore BioImaging Consortium (SBIC), A*STAR. 

Prof. Hui, a Singaporean, received his BSc and MSc from the Dept of Bacteriology & Public Health, Washington State University, Pullman, USA and his PhD in Immunology, Northwestern University School of Medicine, Chicago, U.S.A.  Prior to Singapore, Prof. Hui was employed at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel Road, London; and as a scientific member at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research, Mill Hill, London, United Kingdom.  Prof Hui was awarded the Fellowship of The Royal College of Pathologists, FRCPath (UK) in 2001 and the Singapore National Science Award (now the President's Science Award) in 1996 for his work in cancer genes and therapy.

Dr Bin Tean Teh obtained his MD (1992) from the University of Queensland, Australia and his PhD (1997) from the Karolinska Institute, Sweden. Following postdoctoral works in multiple endocrine neoplasia 1 at Karolinska Institute, Dr Teh joined the Van Andel Research Institute (VARI) in 2000 as a Senior Scientific Investigator heading the Laboratory of Cancer Genetics. In 2007, Dr Teh was appointed as the founding Director of the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS)-VARI laboratory, which serves as a bridge between translational research and clinical medicine. In 2010 he received the STaR award and relocated to Singapore and is currently a full professor in CSCB. He served as the SingHealth Group Director for Translational Research from 2010-2012. His laboratory focuses on genomic studies of cancers common among Asian populations, using tools such as high-throughput genomic platforms and correlation studies with cliinico-pathological information. He holds Adjunct Professorships at several universities worldwide including Baylor College of Medicine, USA, Nanjing University and Sun Yat-Sen University, China and the Karolinska Institute, Sweden. Dr. Teh has published extensively, with over 300 publications in high impact scientific journals. He has been member of various editorial boards for journals including Lancet Oncology, Cancer Research, Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, International Journal of Oncology, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Clinical Genitourinary Cancer, and the American Journal of Translational Research.

Dr Darren Wan-Teck Lim is a medical oncologist.  He graduated with MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 1993.  He is Director of the SingHealth Investigational Medicine Unit.  He was a visiting research fellow in pharmacogenomics and thoracic oncology at the Washington University School of Medicine, St Louis.  His research interests are in early phase clinical trials with biomarker correlates, with areas of specific interest in circulating tumor cells.  He is also Co-Group Leader for the laboratory

Brief Biosketch

Associate Professor Joanne Ngeow, is a Senior Consultant in Division of Medical Oncology at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS). Assoc Prof Ngeow currently heads the NCCS Cancer Genetics Service with an academic interest in hereditary cancer syndromes and translational clinical cancer genomics. Her current clinical focus and research revolves around understanding cancer predisposition by studying cancers clustering in families, young adults and in families with multiple / rare cancer presentations.
After completing her undergraduate medical studies at the University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2001, she completed her Internal Medicine training at the Singapore General Hospital and trained in Medical Oncology at NCCS. She was awarded consecutive fellowships by the SingHealth Research Foundation, National Medical Research Council and the Ambrose Monell Foundation to complete formal clinical and bench training as the Ambrose Monell Cancer Genomic Medicine Fellow at the Genomic Medicine Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. In 2015, she completed her Masters of Public Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, with a focus in cancer epidemiology and health economics making her one of a handful of individuals globally with skills spanning translational science, clinical genetics and health services research.

In 2014, Assoc Prof Ngeow returned to Singapore to lead the clinical cancer genetics service and research programme at NCCS into inherited cancer syndromes. Assoc Prof Ngeow was appointed as Associate Professor (Genomic Medicine) of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University in 2017. She has published over 80 peer reviewed papers in such journals as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, Human Molecular Genetics, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Gastroenterology. She is an Associate Editor for Endocrine-Related Cancers.

Dr. Wan-Yee Teo, a clinician-scientist, is the Head and Principal Investigator of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Office at SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Center, Singapore. Her group conducts their laboratory research at the Humphrey Oei Institute of Cancer Research, National Cancer Center Singapore. The research focus of her group is in the brain tumor microenvironment, particularly in pediatric brain tumors, and translating research findings in tumor biology and genomics to bedside benefits for children with brain tumors. She completed her clinical training in Pediatrics and Pediatric NeuroOncology in the USA, and is board certified with the American Board of Pediatrics, and the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health in the UK. Her research training was completed in the Cancer Genomics Program at Baylor College of Medicine, USA. Her research combines genomic methodologies and mouse models to study the complex regulation in the developmental biology of brain tumors.
