IME has collaborations with every sector of the electronics industry in Singapore from IC design, wafer fabrication and packaging to niche technology industries such as MEMS and leading edge photonics.
IME aims to provide advanced technology support for a competitive electronics industry through advanced services, technology transfer and R&D manpower development. These collaborations provide the essential inputs to guide IME’s R&D programmes, thereby ensuring that IME stays relevant to the industry.
IME’s collaboration models are as follows:
Joint Development Projects
IME jointly conducts research or develops particular technologies or products with individual companies. These projects range from design to fabrication for both small and large sized companies.
IME creates a resource and experience-sharing platform with multiple companies by initiating and spearheading research consortia, or focus interest projects. IME’s mission is to value-add to consortia members by advancing in leading edge relevant R&D and to help members sustain growth and competitiveness by planning ahead.
IME supports the Growing Enterprises with Technology Upgrade (GET-UP) initiative which aims to boost the global competitiveness of local technology-intensive enterprises. This includes seconding its research staff to the industry to assist the company in its R&D efforts (T-UP), as well as helping companies in their Operation and Technology Roadmapping (OTR).
IME licenses its technology or Intellectual Property (IP) to industry collaborators through Exploit Technologies (ETPL), the commercialisation arm of A*STAR. ETPL is positioned to identify, protect and exploit IP created by A*STAR Research Institutes.
Some IME technologies licensed to the industry include high speed cycling bend tester, DNA extraction chip / micro PCR chip technologies and IC block for pressure sensor IC.
