IMRE scientist, Dr Anjan Soumyanarayanan, was one of the recipients of the Young Scientist Awards (YSA) 2018 at the President’s Science and Technology Awards (PSTA) ceremony on 25 September 2018. His achievement was mentioned in a report on PSTA 2018, published by The Straits Times.
Dr Anjan was recognised for his research which unveiled the emergent properties of electronic materials, enabling the tailoring of two-dimensional quantum phases and spin topology towards advanced nanoelectronics. His A*STAR team recently developed magnetic particles called “skyrmions” which could potentially be used in “next-generation computing”, to efficiently combine information storage (memory) and decision-making (logic) capabilities – much like the human brain.
